United Way’s Volunteer Connection Receives Chase Grant

September 21, 2011, Dayton, Ohio - United Way of the Greater Dayton Area’s Volunteer Connection has received a $15,000 grant from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation.  The grant will be utilized to develop and enhance the youth component of Volunteer Connection called, “Youth Changing the World”. This project will cultivate character development through the utilization of authentic, sustainable, and long-term community service goals while simultaneously educating youth as volunteers, academic achievers, and peer mentors.

According to Cinnamon Pelly, Vice President of the JPMorgan Chase Foundation in Ohio, this engagement of youth was a primary factor in the awarding of the grant.  “We were drawn to the fact that this program engages young people in constructive ways, encouraging good citizenship,” she said.  “The added elements which aid in academic performance, positive work ethics, and a sense of professionalism that will benefit these students and our communities in the long-term are especially appealing.”

Joey D. Williams, President of Chase in the Dayton area, added, “JPMorgan Chase is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen. To that end, we foster partnerships with organizations like United Way so that we can be a catalyst for meaningful, positive, and sustainable change within our neighborhoods and communities.”

The JPMorgan Chase Foundation receives thousands of requests for grants/funding each year.  In 2010, JPMorgan Chase and its Foundation gave more than $150 million through grants and sponsorships to thousands of not-for-profit organizations across 28 domestic markets and 25+ countries abroad.
