Press Release
Help Greene County Children Get Ready for School

July 12, 2011, Xenia, Ohio - United Way of the Greater Dayton Area’s Greene County Branch is looking for donations as part of its 4th annual School Supply and Clothing Giveaway.

A joint venture between Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area and United Way, the program promises to help hundreds of local children prepare for the upcoming school year by equipping them with school supplies and clothing.  Last year, more than 400 local children were helped by the program, receiving basic necessities such as book bags, notebooks, writing utensil and art supplies donated by 15 local companies and organizations.

“United Way helps thousands of people in our community,” said Betty Zientara, a volunteer with United Way’s Greene County Branch.  “This is just one way we can positively affect the lives of others.”

The giveaway will be held on August 19th from 9am to 3pm, and United Way is looking for increased community support to make sure they can help as many people as possible.  United Way officials are seeking new and/or gently used clothing for children K-12, as well as backpacks, notepads, copy paper, scissors and glue.  Companies and individuals who wish to collect donations to the program may deliver them to the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area’s Greene County Branch office at 1855 Bellbrook Avenue in Xenia or contact Meg Gillis, Director of United Way’s Greene County Branch, at (937) 376-5555.
