Hundreds to Benefit from School Clothes & Supplies Giveaway

August 19, 2010, Greene County, Ohio - On Friday, August 20th, hundreds of local children will receive free school supplies and clothing thanks to a joint venture between United Way of the Greater Dayton Area’s Greene County Branch and Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area’s Greene County Branch.

Now in its third year, the giveaway was started when officials at Community Action Partnership saw a need to help children in Greene County become better prepared for school.  They partnered with United Way to reach as many local people as possible in their efforts to collect basic necessities ranging from clothing to backpacks and folders. Last year, 376 children benefitted from the giveaway, and United Way officials expect even greater numbers will need assistance in 2010.

The giveaway will be held at the Greene County Media Center on Ledbetter Road in Xenia from 9am until 3pm.  In addition to school supplies and clothing, local health and human service agencies will be in attendance to offer information and services to the attendees.  Donations were generously provided by the following organizations: Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center, PNC Bank, SAIC, YSI, Unison Industries, Travel Plex, Puzzles Plus, Huntington Bank, USAF AFMC AFRL/RBA , SuperValu, City of Beavercreek, Hilton Inn Beavercreek, Cedarville University, OSU Extension Office, Xenia City Schools, the Greene County Health Department and area churches. Volunteers from Kettering 1st Baptist Church, TCN and Target helped sort the donations.
